The school is located on the corner of The Curve & Erica Street and sits within the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham.
Some of Phoenix Academy’s current facilities are severely compromised, with the western block of buildings being outdated, underused, and unsafe. Areas such as the gymnasiums and large sections of the main teaching block have become inefficient due to poor design. These spaces, which were once central to the school’s operations, are now unsuitable for modern education, with inadequate insulation leading to cold classrooms in the winter and overheating in the summer.
Many of these buildings date back to the 1950s and are increasingly expensive to maintain. Rather than continuing to invest in outdated facilities, the proposals will deliver modern educational buildings designed to support teaching and learning for decades to come. Alongside this, it will deliver new private and affordable homes that contribute to both London-wide and local housing targets.
Throughout the consultation, many respondents highlighted the importance of investing in the school’s facilities. As one local resident explained, “Improving school facilities always has a positive impact on students’ experiences and can be inspiring places in which to learn.” The submitted proposals will create vibrant, flexible learning environments while supporting the school’s continued success.
